Why this opportunity stands out
Join a customer-facing engineering role that combines discovery, software delivery and deployment across a modern open-source stack.
About the role
167 Solutions is a specialist recruitment and consulting business connecting exceptional talent with ambitious organisations across AI, technology, finance, HR and sales. We combine deep market knowledge with a practical, relationship-led approach, helping clients build teams and deliver meaningful change.
We are seeking a Forward Deployment Engineer who enjoys working at the point where product, engineering and customer delivery meet. You will embed with stakeholders, understand real operational challenges and rapidly design, build and deploy solutions that create measurable value.
This role suits an adaptable engineer who is comfortable moving between discovery sessions, architecture decisions, hands-on coding, deployment and user feedback. You will translate ambiguous requirements into robust technical outcomes while helping customers adopt and scale the solutions you deliver.
Key responsibilities
• Design, prototype and deploy production-ready applications and integrations.
• Translate complex business requirements into clear technical plans and deliverable increments.
• Build APIs, data pipelines, user interfaces and automation using an open-source technology stack.
• Integrate solutions with customer systems, data sources and cloud environments.
• Diagnose technical issues in live environments and take ownership through to resolution.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to turn field insight into reusable platform improvements.
• Produce clear documentation and support users through adoption and handover.
What they're looking for
• Hands-on experience with an open-source stack, ideally including Python, FastAPI or Django, TypeScript, React, PostgreSQL, Linux, Git, Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience building and consuming REST APIs, integrating third-party systems and working with structured data.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, observability and secure deployment practices.
• Confidence working directly with customers and explaining technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders.
• A pragmatic approach to problem solving, with the ability to make progress when requirements are incomplete or changing.
• Useful additional experience includes open-source AI/ML tooling, LLM deployment, data engineering or workflow automation.
Benefits
• UK remote and hybrid working options.
• High ownership and direct exposure to meaningful customer problems.
• Opportunity to work across modern open-source technologies and applied AI use cases.
• Supportive, specialist team with scope to shape delivery practices as the function grows.
