About the role
167 Solutions is working with an organisation looking to appoint an experienced AI Technical Lead for a 12-month, outside IR35 contract in London.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role spanning AI strategy, architecture and engineering. You will take ownership of AI initiatives from initial concept through to production, working with engineering, product and business stakeholders to create scalable, secure and reliable solutions.
The successful consultant will combine deep Generative AI and machine-learning knowledge with the ability to challenge technical decisions, guide delivery teams and remain closely involved in the technology. This is not a delivery-management-only position.
Key responsibilities
• Design enterprise LLM, retrieval-augmented generation, AI agent and multi-agent architectures.
• Build and integrate conversational, voice-to-text and speech-based AI services, including ElevenLabs and related voice technologies.
• Evaluate and integrate commercial and open-source foundation models.
• Design cloud AI solutions across AWS and Google Cloud, including AWS Bedrock, SageMaker and Vertex AI.
• Build APIs, data pipelines and integrations connecting AI services with existing enterprise systems.
• Own technical decisions concerning scalability, performance, security, governance and responsible AI.
• Take prototypes and proofs of concept through to stable production environments.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and clear direction to AI and software-engineering teams.
• Work directly with senior technical and business stakeholders to turn objectives into deliverable solutions.
What they're looking for
• Deep knowledge of LLMs, RAG, embeddings, semantic search, AI agents and agentic or multi-agent architectures.
• Hands-on Python engineering experience, including FastAPI and production API design.
• Experience with LangChain, LangGraph, vector databases, Hugging Face or comparable open-source AI tooling.
• Practical voice AI, speech-to-text or text-to-speech experience; ElevenLabs experience is particularly relevant.
• Strong cloud architecture experience across AWS or GCP, ideally AWS Bedrock, SageMaker or Vertex AI.
• Experience with prompt engineering, model evaluation, optimisation, MLOps or LLMOps.
• Working knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD and secure cloud deployment.
• Understanding of AI security, governance and responsible-AI controls.
• Ability to operate at strategic and hands-on technical levels while communicating clearly with senior stakeholders.
