Why this opportunity stands out

Build an independent mortgage broking practice within a directly regulated financial services organisation. Established pipeline, introducer network and full operational support.

About the role

167 Solutions is supporting a directly regulated financial services organisation with the appointment of an Independent Mortgage Broker.

This is a genuine independent practice rather than a employed sales role. You would be responsible for your own book - the clients you advise, the cases you place and the relationships you build - while working inside a regulated environment that has already put the compliance, operational and regulatory infrastructure in place.

The organisation has longevity in the market, an established professional introducer network and a healthy pipeline of clients needing mortgage advice. You would deal with residential purchase, remortgage, buy-to-let and more complex lending - buying, first home, moving home, remortgaging and equity release - and advise on the products that genuinely suit the client's circumstances.

Because you are operating under the firm's FCA permissions and within its compliance function, you get the things that make an independent practice work without having to build them yourself: access to whole-of-market research, case processing and administration, a dedicated compliance contact, and professional introducers referring clients to you.

The earnings range of £50,000 to £100,000 reflects a self-employed commission structure with earnings dependent on performance, and is indicative rather than guaranteed. The right person here is commercially minded, genuinely independent in outlook, and wants a long-term practice rather than a fixed salary.

Key responsibilities

• Provide compliant, whole-of-market mortgage advice from initial enquiry through to completion, covering residential purchase, remortgage, buy-to-let and more complex lending requirements.
• Assess client circumstances, affordability, objectives and risk appetite, and identify suitable lending options across the market.
• Own your client relationships - source, develop and retain them, and act as the client's ongoing point of contact through the case.
• Build trusted long-term relationships with clients, introducers, lenders and professional partners across your patch.
• Maintain accurate fact finds, suitability records, case notes and supporting documentation to evidence the advice given.
• Work with administration and case-management support to progress applications efficiently and communicate status clearly.
• Identify protection, insurance and wider financial-planning needs, and refer where that sits outside your advice.
• Work to the FCA Consumer Duty and the firm's compliance framework, in a way that protects the client and the firm alike.
• Contribute to the wider team as an independent broker - sharing market intelligence and working alongside colleagues rather than in isolation.

What they're looking for

• Current UK mortgage advice qualification - CeMAP or an equivalent recognised qualification - and active FCA mortgage adviser status.
• Demonstrable experience advising clients on regulated mortgage products, with a record of compliant advice and positive customer outcomes.
• Strong understanding of whole-of-market mortgage research, affordability assessment and lender criteria.
• Confident relationship-building and business development, and the confidence to originate your own business as well as convert the pipeline.
• Strong organisation, communication and case management - you are running your own book and the detail has to hold up.
• Genuine appetite to build a long-term independent practice rather than move between employed roles.
• Comfortable operating within a compliance function and having your advice reviewed - this is a regulated business and the environment is a support, not a constraint.
• Existing client or introducer relationships are beneficial, but not essential given the available pipeline.
• Must be able to work on a self-employed basis and meet the firm's regulatory, insurance and compliance requirements.

Required certifications

  • Current UK mortgage advice qualification - CeMAP or an equivalent recognised qualification
  • Active FCA mortgage adviser status, with the relevant permissions held directly or through the firm
  • Evidence of annual CPD compliance under FCA rules
  • Consumer Duty knowledge, and how it applies to mortgage advice
  • Full business and public liability insurance, as required by the firm's contractor terms

Benefits

• An established and healthy client pipeline, plus access to professional introducers.
• Competitive self-employed commission structure, with indicative earnings potential of £50,000 to £100,000 depending on performance.
• A directly regulated environment with established compliance, operational and case-management support around you.
• Whole-of-market product access and a dedicated compliance contact.
• Flexible UK hybrid working - as much or as little client-facing time as you want.
• The opportunity to build and keep your own client book rather than work for a bank's panel.
• A credible business with strong market longevity and a directly regulated structure behind the practice.
